Jewelry Care Guide
Craftify Creations
That isn’t how jewelry works.
Our pieces are designed for everyday wear, but they are still jewelry. Some basic care makes a big difference in how long the finish lasts and how the piece looks over time.
First, the honest part
But this does not mean the jewelry will never change or never show signs of wear.
Plated jewelry, no matter how well made, reacts to daily life. Sweat, friction, moisture, perfumes, and storage all play a role over time. This is normal and expected.
Everyday wear is okay — constant exposure is different
You can wear the jewelry daily. That is what it is designed for.
What causes problems is constant exposure without breaks. Long showers, swimming, gym sessions, sleeping with jewelry on, or repeated contact with products can slowly affect the finish.
Wearing jewelry daily and never taking it off are two different things.
Water and moisture
Water-resistant does not mean waterproof.
Washing hands occasionally or getting caught in the rain is usually fine. Long exposure to water again and again is different.
Things to avoid when possible:
- Swimming pools
- Hot tubs
- Long showers
- Salt water
- Leaving jewelry wet for long periods
Water itself is not always the issue. It’s the combination of water, heat, soap, and minerals that affects plating over time.
Perfume, lotion and chemicals
This is one of the biggest causes of discoloration and fading.
Perfume, lotions, sunscreen, hair spray, and cleaning products all contain chemicals that slowly react with plated surfaces.
A simple habit helps a lot:
Put jewelry on after perfume, makeup and lotions.
Not before.
Sweat and physical activity
Sweat is natural and normal. But it does contain salts and oils that can affect the finish if exposure happens constantly.
If you exercise regularly, it’s better to remove jewelry during workouts. The combination of sweat and friction is what causes most early wear.
Friction and daily movement
Jewelry rubs against clothing, desks, bags, and other surfaces throughout the day. This kind of friction is unavoidable and is one of the main reasons plating slowly changes over time.
Bracelets and rings usually show wear faster because they move more and touch more surfaces.
This is normal for plated jewelry.
Storage matters more than people think
How jewelry is stored when not being worn makes a bigger difference than most people expect.
When possible:
- Store pieces in a dry place
- Keep jewelry separate so pieces don’t rub against each other
- Avoid leaving jewelry in humid places like bathrooms
Small habits like this help slow down wear.
Cleaning your jewelry
You don’t need special products.
A soft cloth is enough. Gently wipe the jewelry after wearing it to remove oils and moisture. This simple step helps keep the surface clean and reduces buildup.
Avoid harsh cleaning products or abrasive materials.
The simple summary
Wear it often.
Don’t wear it 24/7.
Avoid long water exposure.
Put it on after perfume.
Store it dry.
Wipe it occasionally.
That’s really it.
This guide exists to set realistic expectations and help your jewelry keep its finish for as long as possible.
